Fort George Cay
An uninhabited cay with eighteenth-century cannon lying in the shallows.

Fort George Cay between Providenciales and Pine Cay is uninhabited now but held a small British fort in the 1790s, built to protect the Loyalist cotton plantations, and the cannon are still there: several lie in the shallow water just off the beach, encrusted and visible from the surface. The fort itself has gone. The cay is a national park and the beach runs its whole length. The cay is one of several small national parks scattered through the Caicos Cays.

When to go
December to April is the dry high season. Boat trips run in season. Wind cancels crossings at times.
Good to know
The fort itself has entirely gone; only the cannon in the water remain. Access is by boat trip only. There are no facilities and no shade.
