Notsé
The ancestral town of the Ewe people, with remains of its old defensive wall.

Notsé is held by the Ewe to be the town their people left in the seventeenth century, dispersing west and south into what are now Togo, Ghana and Benin after a tyrannical king, and the remains of the Agbogbo wall that enclosed the settlement can still be traced in places. The Agbogbo-za festival each September brings Ewe people back from across the region to mark the departure.

When to go
The Agbogbo-za falls in September and is when the town fills. November to March is the dry season otherwise. The town is quiet the rest of the year.
Before you go
Very little of the wall survives and a guide is needed to find what does. Outside the festival there is little to see. Facilities are basic.
