Jelondy sits on the Pamir Highway at around three thousand six hundred metres, where hot mineral water comes out of the ground at a temperature that needs cooling before anyone can get in. A sanatorium was built here in the Soviet period and still operates, with indoor pools and treatment rooms in buildings that have seen little investment since. It is a standard stop for travellers crossing between Khorog and Murghab.

When to go
June to September is the season for the highway. The baths operate year round in principle but access depends on the road. A GBAO permit is required.

The buildings are run down and facilities are basic by any standard. The water is very hot at source and burns are possible. Opening depends on staff being present.
