Tylosand is a wide arc of pale sand running about seven kilometres west of Halmstad, backed by dunes and pine, and it is the busiest beach in Halland - a province whose whole coast is sand rather than the rock of Bohuslan further north. The main section is fully serviced with lifeguards, kiosks and a hotel that Per Gessle of Roxette has an interest in, along with a summer club scene that gives the place its reputation among younger Swedes. Walking north or south from the main entrance thins the crowds quickly. A nature reserve covers part of the dunes and the coastal path runs along behind them.

Honest expectations
The main section is loud and crowded in July, with a club scene that suits some visitors and not others. Parking fills early and is charged. Out of season it is empty and windswept. The water is cold.
