James Fredrik Dickson, from a Gothenburg merchant family of Scottish origin, commissioned the house in 1898; he died before it was finished and his widow Blanche completed it in 1904 to Lars Israel Wahlman's design - English Tudor outside, arts and crafts inside, with every fitting designed for the building. What visitors remember is the technical side: a central vacuum cleaning system built into the walls, an early shower cabinet with jets from several directions, and electric and heating installations unusual for the date. The estate covers the headland with parkland, a beach, a stable yard and a model village of thatched houses built for the workers.
