Tallberg

Tallberg hangs on a slope above Siljan with the lake spread out below, and what it consists of is largely hotels - timber buildings in the Dalarna manner, several of them a century old, put up when artists, writers and then tourists came to the province looking for something they took to be authentically Swedish. Anders Zorn's circle and the national romantic movement did much to make Dalarna stand for the country as a whole, and Tallberg's business was built on it. The village is small and the view is the asset. Midsummer in the district, with the maypoles raised at Leksand and Rattvik, is the busiest week of the year.

June to August, or midwinter for snow. Half a day.

Honest expectations

It is essentially a hotel village with little to do beyond the view and eating. Midsummer books out months ahead and prices rise. Shoulder seasons are dull. A car is needed to move around Siljan.
