Rattvik

Rattvik's Langbryggan runs 628 metres out to a small artificial island in Siljan, built in 1895 for the steamer S/S Rattvik and reopened in 1992 after a restoration paid for plank by plank by sponsors, and now used for walking out over the lake, which is the thing people do here. By the church on the point stand the kyrkstallar, old timber stables where parishioners kept their horses during services. Church boats, long rowing boats that carried whole villages across the water to church, are still rowed in summer races round Siljan. Above the village the Vidablick tower gives a view over the lake, and Dalhalla quarry is a short drive north.

Practical notes

Midsummer week is very busy and books out. Out of season the village is quiet. The pier is exposed in wind. Church boat races happen on set dates only.
