Zorn Museum

Anders Zorn was the most internationally successful Swedish painter of his generation, working in Paris, London and the United States - he painted three American presidents - and he built his house at Mora with his wife Emma and filled it with what he collected. The Zorngarden is shown as they left it, a timber house with a high hall of carved wood and their furniture in place. The museum built alongside in 1939 holds the paintings: portraits, the nudes outdoors in cold northern light he is known for, and the Dalarna subjects. Emma left everything to the state at her death. The textile collection and the farm buildings Zorn gathered are also part of the estate.

When to go

Year round; the house is by guided tour. Two hours.

Honest expectations

The house is tour-only and tours are limited, particularly in English. Winter hours are short. Photography is restricted. Mora is a long way from anywhere without a car or the train.
