Orsa Predator Park

The park opened in 1986 at Gronklitt and holds the four large Swedish predators - brown bear, wolf, lynx, wolverine - in enclosures cut out of the forest that are large by zoo standards, with elevated walkways letting visitors look down into them rather than through fencing at eye level. Polar bears and Kamchatka bears are also kept, and the park has taken in animals from poor conditions elsewhere. Feeding times draw the animals into view and are the reliable moment to see them. It sits at the foot of the Gronklitt ski hill in Orsa Finnmark, and much of the surrounding country is forest with cabins and trails.

June to August; bears are dormant in winter. Three to four hours.

What to expect

Bears hibernate, so winter visits miss them entirely. Animals in large enclosures are often not visible outside feeding. The circuit is long with hills. You will not reach it without a car.
