Kulturen in Lund

Georg Karlin opened Kulturen in 1892, a year after Skansen, which makes it the second open-air museum anywhere and the oldest in a town centre rather than a park. It occupies two whole blocks in the middle of Lund with around thirty buildings moved in from Skane and further afield: farmhouses, town houses, a stave-built storehouse, a wooden church from Bosebo, workshops and a school, standing along paths and gardens. Indoor galleries hold textiles, ceramics, silver, medieval material from Lund's excavations and a large Sami collection. The mix of outdoor buildings and museum collections in the middle of a working town is what makes it distinctive.

Many buildings are shut outside high summer. It is spread over two blocks in changeable weather. Labelling in English is partial. The site can feel crowded on event days.
