Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge

Sogeumsan means small Geumgangsan, a local claim that the rock scenery here resembles the famous mountain. The suspension bridge opened in 2018 across the gorge of the Seomgang - about two hundred metres long, roughly a hundred metres above the water, with a grille deck you can see straight through and enough give underfoot to feel every step. It was an immediate success and the county has since added a cliff-edge skywalk cantilevered out from the rock, a longer canopy walk, and a zipline across the valley, so what was one bridge is now a circuit. Getting to it is the part people underestimate: a stepped climb of fifteen to twenty minutes from the car park, steep the whole way. The views along the gorge are genuinely good, and autumn is when they are best. It closes in high wind.

When to go

April to June and October, with autumn colour the peak and the busiest. Weekday mornings avoid the queue on the bridge, which is one-way at busy times.

The approach climb is steep and stepped - not suitable for everyone, and there is no other way up. Ticketed, with the zipline extra. The bridge moves, and the grille deck is difficult for anyone afraid of heights. Closed in high wind.
