Soyanggang Skywalk

The skywalk runs out over the water where the Soyang meets the Uiam reservoir at Chuncheon - about 174 metres long, with the last 156 metres floored in laminated glass so the lake is visible directly under your feet. Visitors put on cloth slippers over their shoes at the entrance, which keeps the glass clear and is the detail everyone photographs. At the far end is a viewing platform and a sculpture of a carp, tied to a local legend. The lake, the hills behind and the river traffic are the view; on still mornings there is mist on the water. It is free, takes half an hour, and sits within an easy walk of Chuncheon's other riverside attractions. Two practical notes: it closes in high wind and ice, and people who dislike heights find the glass genuinely difficult even though the drop is only to water a few metres below.

When to go

April to June and September to November; early morning for mist on the water. It closes in high wind and when the deck ices over.

Honest expectations

It is one pier and thirty minutes. Free, but crowded at weekends and there is often a queue for slippers. The glass is genuinely uncomfortable for anyone with a fear of heights.
