EntryTicketed by number of rides

Skyline Luge is a New Zealand operation and Tongyeong got the first Korean site in 2017, on the lower slope of Mireuksan next to the cable car station. The carts have no engine: you sit low, steer with handlebars and brake by pulling them back, and gravity does the rest down about 1.6 kilometres of concrete track in two runs, one gentler and one faster, with a chairlift back to the top between rides. It is genuinely fun and suits mixed ages - children can ride tandem with an adult - which is why it is priced per ride and most people buy several. The view down the track is over Tongyeong's harbour and the scattered islands of the Hallyeohaesang marine park, which is the same view the cable car gives from higher up. Combining the two is the standard half-day. It does not run in rain, since the track is unsafe wet.

What you actually see

  • The two tracks - 1.6 km of concrete, one gentle and one fast.
  • The gravity carts - steered by handlebars, braked by pulling back.
  • The island view - Hallyeohaesang from the descent.
  • The chairlift - the return between runs.

When to go

April to June and September to November. It closes in rain - check the forecast, since a wet day means no riding at all. Weekends and school holidays queue.

Honest expectations

Ticketed per ride and it adds up; one run is over quickly. Closed in wet weather. Minimum height limits apply for solo riders. It is a commercial ride, unconnected to anything Korean.

Nearby

The Mireuksan cable car is adjacent; Dongpirang and Gangguan harbour are in the town.
