Hindhede Nature Park

Hindhede quarry was worked for granite until 1980 and the pit filled with water afterwards, turning a strong turquoise from dissolved minerals against the pale rock. A short trail climbs to a viewpoint over it. The park is small, mostly shaded, and sits at the foot of Bukit Timah, which makes it the easy option for anyone not wanting the main climb, with a playground and shelters near the entrance.

What you actually see

• The quarry lake - turquoise water in a granite pit worked until 1980.
• The viewpoint - a short climb to a deck above the water.
• The rock face - the quarried granite wall behind the lake.
• The shaded trails - short easy routes at the foot of Bukit Timah.

When to go

Year round; early morning is coolest and the light on the water is best mid-morning. Afternoon storms are frequent. Weekends are crowded.

Honest expectations

Swimming in the quarry is prohibited and the sides are unstable. The park is very small and an hour covers it. It shares a car park with Bukit Timah, which fills early.
