Bukit Batok Nature Park was laid out in 1988 on a hill that had been quarried for granite, and the pond in the old pit sits at the bottom with secondary forest grown up over the slopes around it. A long flight of steps climbs to the top of the hill, where a cross-shaped concrete slab marks the site of a memorial that once stood there. Trails run through the woodland and the park is a good place for the greater racket-tailed drongo.

What you actually see

  • The quarry pond - the flooded pit at the bottom of the park.
  • The stepped climb - a long flight up the hill through secondary forest.
  • The hilltop slab - the concrete base of a monument that no longer stands.
  • The birdlife - drongos, orioles and woodpeckers in the regrown forest.

When to go

Year round; early morning is coolest for the climb. Afternoon storms are frequent. The park is quieter than most on weekdays.

Honest expectations

The climb is a long staircase and hard work in the humidity. The pond is fenced and not accessible. There is little interpretation.

Nearby

Little Guilin is north, and Jurong is southwest.
