Rifle Range opened in 2022 on land that had been a granite quarry and before that a rifle range, and the design worked with what was there: a quarry wetland at the bottom with a lookout over it, a colugo trail, and a raised boardwalk through the canopy at the Banyan Trail. It buffers Bukit Timah next door and is managed to draw pressure off the older reserve, so it is quieter and the wildlife is much the same.
What you actually see
- The quarry wetland - the flooded pit at the bottom of the park with a lookout.
- The raised boardwalk - a walk at canopy level on the Banyan Trail.
- The colugo trail - a route where Malayan flying lemurs are regularly seen.
- The buffer function - a park built to take pressure off Bukit Timah.
When to go
Year round; early morning is coolest. The park closes at seven. Afternoon storms are common and the boardwalks are slippery.
Honest expectations
The park is new and the planting is young in places. Mosquitoes are heavy near the wetland. It is smaller than the trail network suggests.
Nearby
Bukit Timah is next door, and Dairy Farm is north.
