Belmont Lookout

Belmont Lookout sits on the ridge road between Kingstown and the Mesopotamia valley, and from the lay-by the whole of the valley opens out below with its terraced slopes, the ridges running down to the windward coast and the Atlantic beyond, and on clear days the Grenadines strung out to the south. It is the standard stop on any drive through the interior and takes about twenty minutes. A small shelter and a few stalls stand beside the parking, and the road continues down into the valley from here on a series of sharp bends.

• The valley view - the terraced slopes of Mesopotamia laid out below.
• The windward coast - the ridges running down to the Atlantic.
• The Grenadines - the chain visible to the south on clear days.
• The ridge position - the crest between the capital and the interior.

When to go

December to May is the dry season with the clearest views. Mornings are best before cloud builds. Rain closes the view entirely.

Honest expectations

It is a roadside lay-by and twenty minutes covers it. Cloud closes the view frequently. Facilities are none beyond parking space.
