Baie Rouge runs along the western end of the French side, a long beach whose sand carries a reddish tint from the rock behind it, backed by scrub with a natural arch in the rock at the eastern end that can be walked to at low water. The water is clearer than on the lagoon side and the swell is bigger. It is one of the emptier long beaches on the island.

When to go
December to April is the dry season. Hurricane season runs June to November. Winter swell can make the water rough.

Currents here are stronger than on the sheltered beaches and swimming needs care. Facilities have come and gone with hurricanes and may be none. Shade is limited.
