Loblolly Bay on Anegada's northern shore is a long stretch of white sand with reef close enough inshore that snorkellers swim to it from the beach, and because Anegada is a coral island rather than a volcanic one, the water is shallow and clear over sand for a long way out. Two beach bars operate on the sand. The island is flat, barely eight metres at its highest point, and almost entirely undeveloped.

What you actually see

  • The inshore reef - coral within swimming distance of the beach.
  • The white sand - the long shore of a coral rather than volcanic island.
  • The shallow water - clear water over sand a long way out.
  • The flatness - an island barely eight metres above the sea at its highest.

When to go

December to May is the season and calmest. North swell in winter can close the snorkelling. Hurricane season runs June to November.

Honest expectations

North swell makes the reef dangerous and murky at times. Facilities are two beach bars and nothing else. Getting to Anegada means a ferry that runs on a limited schedule.

Nearby

Flamingo Pond is south, and The Settlement is southwest.
