Grand Case is one street running along a beach on the French side of the island, and almost the whole of it is restaurants: bistros in Creole houses at one end, the lolos, open-air barbecue stands serving ribs, chicken and johnny cakes, at the other, and the sea a few metres away throughout. It built the island's food reputation and remains the reason most people come north.

What you actually see

  • The lolos - the open-air barbecue stands at the end of the street.
  • The restaurants - the bistros in Creole houses along the road.
  • The beach - the sand running behind the street.
  • The single street - a village that is essentially one road of food.

When to go

December to April is the high season when everything is open. Many places close in September and October. Evenings are when the street works.

Honest expectations

Many restaurants close for the low season and hurricane months. Prices at the bistro end are high. The village was hit hard by Hurricane Irma and rebuilding continued for years.

Nearby

Anse Marcel is east, and Marigot is south.
