Mamiku Gardens

Mamiku is a garden laid out on an eighteenth-century estate near Micoud, with paths running through planted beds, woodland and a herb garden to the ruins of the old estate house on the hill above. The name comes from Madame de Micoud, whose husband governed the island. Archaeological work has uncovered material from the estate and a small display covers it. Hummingbirds work the flowering plants. The estate was fortified during the fighting between British and French forces in the 1790s, and traces of that survive on the hill.
