Piton Flore rises to around six hundred metres in Saint Lucia's northern interior, a forested peak climbed on a short but steep trail from near Babonneau, with steps and roots most of the way up. The forest on the way holds the island's endemic birds. From the top the northern half of the island and, in clear conditions, Martinique across the channel are visible. The peak sits within the Castries waterworks reserve, which is why the forest around it survived.

When to go
December to April is the dry season and the trail is safer. Cloud sits on the summit frequently. Rain makes the climb slippery.
Honest expectations
The trail is steep and slippery and shorter than it looks on paper. Cloud often closes the view. A fee is collected and a guide is advisable.
