Barre de l'Isle Trail

The Barre de l'Isle runs along the ridge that divides Saint Lucia into its eastern and western halves, and the trail there is a short loop from the road through rainforest to a lookout, with a longer spur climbing Morne La Combe. From the ridge both coasts are visible on a clear day, and the forest holds parrots, hummingbirds and the island's other endemic birds. The ridge reaches around four hundred and fifty metres at the trailhead, which is where the main road crosses it.

When to go

December to April is the dry season and the trail is firmer. Early morning is best for birds. The ridge is often in cloud.

Honest expectations

The trail is short and the views depend entirely on cloud, which sits on the ridge frequently. A fee is collected at the trailhead. It is muddy after rain.
