Songsong Village

Songsong is the main village on Rota, built across a narrow neck of land between two bays with Wedding Cake Mountain rising at the end of the peninsula behind it, and it holds most of the island's fifteen hundred or so people. A Spanish-era church, the harbour and a handful of shops make up the centre. Rota is the quietest of the Marianas and Songsong is the quietest kind of main village. The island's airport is at the eastern end, so almost every arrival makes the drive across before reaching the village.

When to go

December to June is the drier season. Typhoon season runs July to November. Sunday is quiet with almost everything closed.

Honest expectations

There is very little in the village and services are limited. Flights to Rota are small and can be cancelled. Almost everything closes on Sunday.
