Tonga Cave

Tonga Cave sits on the slope above Songsong on Rota, a large limestone chamber with stalactites and columns and a wide mouth letting daylight well in, used as a shelter during the war and as a gathering place before and since. The floor is level enough to walk on and the chamber is big enough that its scale is the main impression. It is a short walk up from the village. Rota's limestone is riddled with caves of this kind, most of them far harder to reach than this one.

What you actually see

When to go

December to June is the drier season. The cave is accessible year round. The walk up is short in any weather.

Honest expectations

There is no lighting beyond what comes through the mouth. The floor is uneven in places. There is no interpretation on site.
