Norfolk Island Botanic Garden

The Botanic Garden on New Cascade Road is a small patch of the subtropical rainforest that once covered most of Norfolk Island, kept as a reserve with graded paths through it and the island's endemic plants grown alongside the remnant trees. Around forty plant species grow on Norfolk and nowhere else, and a good many of them are here. Green parrots and white terns use the canopy. Interpretive signs along the paths name the endemics and explain what is left of the original forest.

When to go

September to May is warmer and the growth is fullest. The garden is open year round. Mornings are best for birds.

It is small and an hour covers it. Paths get slippery after rain. There is no visitor centre, just the reserve and its signs.
