Hikulagi Sculpture Park

Hikulagi is an outdoor sculpture site in the bush on Niue's eastern side, started in the 1990s by artists working with Niuean materials and later incorporating debris left by Cyclone Heta in 2004: twisted metal, wrecked appliances and washed-up material worked into standing pieces among the trees. The Nukututaha tower is the largest work. It is unfenced and unstaffed. Cyclone Heta hit Niue in January 2004 and destroyed much of Alofi, which is the event most of the later work responds to.

When to go

May to October is the dry season and the paths are firmer. Vegetation grows over the works in the wet season. Cyclone season runs November to April.

What to expect

The site is unmaintained in stretches and vegetation covers some works. There is no interpretation on the ground. It is small and an hour or two covers it.
