Tao Waterfall

The Tao waterfall drops in stages down a forested slope on the northeast coast between Hienghène and Pouébo, close enough to the road that the walk in takes only a few minutes, with a pool at the base for swimming. It is one of the higher falls in the territory. The land is customary and a fee is collected at the entrance, where a small camping ground operates beside the stream.

When to go

April to November is the drier season, though this coast is wet year round. The fall runs strongest after rain. Cyclone season runs November to April.

Honest expectations

The path is slippery and muddy in most conditions. A customary fee is collected and the land is privately held. Facilities are a campsite and nothing more.
