A block of limestone near Koumac in the far north is cut through with caves, and one of them has been opened with steps and lighting for a guided visit of around an hour, passing chambers with stalactites, flowstone and a colony of bats. Archaeological material has been found in the system. The dry country outside is very different from the wet east coast, and the caves are one of the few developed sites in the far north.

When to go
