La Crouen is a group of thermal springs near Canala where water rises at around forty degrees and has been channelled into concrete pools under trees, one of only a handful of hot springs in New Caledonia. The site is simple: pools, changing sheds and a picnic area beside a stream. It is used mainly by people from the surrounding villages, and the road in crosses the Col d'Amieu or comes round the coast. The water is faintly sulphurous and the springs have been used by people from the surrounding valleys for far longer than the concrete basins have existed.
