The beach below runs generous even by Caribbean standards - a deep shelf of pale sand dropping to water in layered blues, with free public palapas claimed early, lifeguard towers flying the day's flags, and sightlines south to the Tulum-esque perch of the El Rey ruins just across the boulevard. The sea here is the open Caribbean, not the lagoon-calmed north shore: real waves, occasional rips and flag discipline that matters, which is precisely why bodyboarders and beach-football leagues favor it and why toddlers do better at Playa Langosta. No clubs means no loungers-for-rent and no bar service - families arrive with coolers and umbrellas, and the atmosphere runs more Mexican Sunday than resort. Dolphins do pass; the name is honest on good mornings.
