Divisadero is the classic Copper Canyon viewpoint - the place where the Chepe train pauses so passengers can stand at the rim and see three canyons converge - and the adventure park built along that rim turned the view into a ride. The headline is the ZipRider, a single long cable that launches riders from the cliff edge and carries them well over a kilometre across open gorge at speed, among the longest zip lines anywhere; a seven-stage zip circuit with hanging bridges works the canyon walls for those who prefer the drawn-out version, and a gondola - a proper cable car with glass cabins - crosses the gorge to a far-side station with lookouts, a via ferrata and walking trails. Around the station, Rarámuri women sell baskets on the platform and gorditas cook over coals at the famous rim stalls. The canyon system itself is larger and in places deeper than the Grand Canyon, and the rim viewpoints - free and open - remain the reason to come even for those who never leave the ground.

What you actually see

  • The rim view - three canyons converging below the lookout.
  • The ZipRider - the long cable launch across the gorge.
  • The gondola - glass cabins crossing to the far wall.
  • The rim stalls - gorditas and Rarámuri baskets by the platform.

When to go

April to October for reliable weather; the park closes rides in wind or storms. Train days bring pulses of crowds - the hours between are calmer.

Honest expectations

Rides are priced individually and add up. Weight and health restrictions apply on the zip lines. The rim itself is free and, for many visitors, sufficient.

Nearby

Creel's town and rock valleys lie east; the Batopilas canyon road runs south from the same highway.
