Danao Adventure Park

The Danao Adventure Park - the E.A.T. Danao park, for extreme, adventure and tourism - is built on the rim of the gorge the Wahig river has cut through northern Bohol's limestone, and the activities all use the drop. The signature is the plunge, a free-fall swing in which participants are winched out over the canyon and released to swing on a long arc some two hundred metres above the river, which is one of the higher canyon swings anywhere. Alongside it are a zipline across the gorge, a suspended cable bike, rappelling down the wall, kayaking on the river below, and caving in the system beneath - the Francisco Dagohoy cave, named for the leader of the eighteenth-century Bohol revolt who used the caves in this district as a base. The park is run by the municipality, and it takes about two hours to reach from Tagbilaran through the island's interior.

When to go

November to May for dry weather; river activities depend on water levels. Weekdays are quieter - weekends bring queues at the plunge.

Honest expectations

Activities are charged individually and add up. The plunge is genuinely frightening and there are no refunds for changing your mind at the edge. It is two hours from Tagbilaran through the interior, so it is a day in itself.
