Dahilayan Adventure Park

Dahilayan sits at around fourteen hundred metres on the northern slopes of the Kitanglad range, in pine and pineapple country where the air is cold enough at night to need a jacket - unusual anywhere in Mindanao. The park was built around ziplines, and the headline is a dual line running well over eight hundred metres down the mountainside, flown superman-style face-down and head-first rather than seated, which is the difference people remember. Around it are shorter zips, a drop tower, a rope course, a luge track, ATV trails, a bike park and accommodation ranging from cabins to a resort, with the mountain and the Bukidnon plateau in view throughout. It is an hour and a half from Cagayan de Oro on a road that climbs steadily through pineapple plantations, and it makes a natural pairing with the rafting at CDO or with a Bukidnon circuit taking in Malaybalay and the monastery.

When to go

November to May for dry weather; the highlands are cool year-round and genuinely cold at night. Weekdays avoid the queues at the main zipline.

Honest expectations

Activities are charged individually and add up quickly. The main zipline queues at weekends and holidays. There is no useful public transport - a vehicle or booked van is needed. Bring warm clothing.
