The walkway at Sungai Sedim runs about nine hundred and twenty-five metres through the canopy of the Gunung Inas forest reserve at a height of up to around twenty-five metres, which puts it among the longest canopy walkways in the world - most are a few hundred metres and this one keeps going, looping through the crowns well away from the entrance. Below it the Sedim river runs over granite boulders in a series of pools and small falls that are the other reason people come, with camping and tubing in the shallower sections. The forest is hill dipterocarp with a good bird list and gibbons calling in the early morning. The walkway has been closed for extended periods for repairs more than once, which is worth checking before making the trip, since it is the sole reason to come this far.

What you actually see

  • About 925 metres of walkway - among the longest canopy walks in the world.
  • Up to twenty-five metres high - looping through the crowns away from the entrance.
  • A boulder river below - pools and small falls on the Sedim, used for swimming.
  • Gibbons at dawn - calling from the hill forest around.

When to go

All year, early. A day.

Honest expectations

The walkway has closed for long periods for repair - confirm it is open before travelling, because it is the whole reason to come. It closes in rain and lightning. The river rises fast after upstream rain.

Nearby

Kulim is west; Penang is about an hour away.
