Patriarchate of Peć Monastery

The Patriarchate of Peć stands where the Rugova gorge opens onto the plain, a complex of four churches built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries and joined into one structure under a common narthex, their interiors covered in wall painting from several periods. It is one of the components of the Medieval Monuments in Kosovo World Heritage property. A nunnery occupies the site and it remains in use. The monastery was the seat of the Serbian patriarchs from the fourteenth century, which is where its name comes from.

When to go

May to October is the comfortable season. The monastery keeps visiting hours around the services. Dress code is enforced strictly.

Honest expectations

It is a working monastic community and access depends on services and on the sisters. Dress requirements are strict and enforced at the gate. Photography inside is generally not permitted.
