Jersey Museum and Art Gallery

The Jersey Museum on the Weighbridge covers the island's story from the Ice Age occupation of La Cotte through the Norman period, the cod trade, the shipbuilding boom and the twentieth century, and attached to it is a merchant's house of the 1810s restored to its 1861 appearance with the family's rooms furnished as they were. The Lillie Langtry material is among the better known parts of the collection.

When to go

Year round, though winter hours are reduced. Two to three hours covers it. It closes on some days in the low season.

Honest expectations

Winter opening is reduced and it closes some days. Temporary exhibitions occupy part of the gallery space. Entry is not cheap unless bought as a heritage pass.
