Shaw Park covers about twenty-five acres on the slope above Ocho Rios, laid out around the site of a hotel that once stood here, with a stream and waterfall running down through the planting, ponds, palms, ferns and a great many orchids and bromeliads. Paths and steps climb between the terraces, and the top gives a view over the bay. It is a garden rather than an activity site, which distinguishes it from most of what Ocho Rios offers.

When to go
December to April is the drier season and the most comfortable. Cruise ship days bring groups. Flowering is best in the spring months.
Honest expectations
Paths are steep and slippery in places with limited handrails. Labelling of plants is minimal. The entry charge is high relative to the size.
