Hosororo Falls

Hosororo Falls is a modest drop in rainforest near Mabaruma in Guyana's northwest, with a pool below it used for swimming. The interest is as much archaeological as scenic: the area around has produced pottery and other material from pre-Columbian occupation, and Hosororo is one of the recognised sites in a region that was settled long before European arrival. The forest around is wet and dense and the walk in is short.

When to go

September to April is drier and easier for the roads. The wet season from May to August brings the fullest flow but heavy mud. Mornings are best before the afternoon rain.

Honest expectations

The falls are small and the visit is short. There is no interpretation of the archaeology on the ground. Mabaruma is remote and reached by air or a long boat and road journey.
