Getting thereNear Pita in the Fouta Djallon; road then a walk, permission needed
EntryPermission and guide fees

Kinkon falls drops off the Fouta Djallon escarpment near Pita on the Kokoulo river, a long fall into a gorge, and a hydroelectric station built at the site takes part of the flow, so how much water goes over depends on what the plant is doing as much as on the season. The gorge below is deep and the viewpoints are on the rim. Permission is needed because of the installation.

What you actually see

  • The long drop - the fall off the escarpment into the gorge.
  • The gorge - the deep cut below the fall.
  • The hydro station - the installation taking part of the flow.
  • The rim viewpoints - the vantage points along the top of the gorge.

When to go

July to October is the wet season when flow is heaviest. The dry season leaves much less water. Flow also depends on the hydro operation.

Honest expectations

The hydro scheme diverts water and the fall is often much reduced regardless of season. Permission is required because of the installation and photography of it is restricted. Access is on rough track.

Nearby

Kambadaga is nearby, and Pita is east.
