Getting thereIn eastern Guam; long trail from the cross-island road, guide advised
EntryFree; guided hikes charged

Sigua Falls in eastern Guam drops a long way into a pool in the Sigua river valley, and getting there is regarded as one of the toughest hikes on the island: a long savanna crossing, a very steep descent on loose clay with ropes fixed on the worst sections, and river work at the bottom. The fall itself runs well after rain. Guided groups go most weekends.

What you actually see

  • The fall - a long drop into the pool in the river valley.
  • The rope sections - the fixed lines on the steepest part of the descent.
  • The savanna crossing - the exposed open ground on the way in.
  • The river valley - the enclosed cut the fall drops into.

When to go

December to June is the drier season and the only sensible window. Rain makes the descent extremely dangerous. Flow is heaviest after rain, which is the tradeoff.

Honest expectations

This is a hard hike with a dangerous descent and it should be done with a group or a guide. People have been seriously injured on the clay sections. There is no phone signal in the valley.

Nearby

Tarzan Falls is west, and Pagat is north.
