Guam's southern ridge climbs to Mount Lamlam - 406 metres above the sea, and the island's beloved statistic: measured from its base in the neighbouring Mariana Trench's depths, the rise exceeds anything on earth, letting hikers claim the 'world's tallest mountain' with a straight-enough face. The trail runs red-dirt savanna ridges from the roadside, sword grass flanking the route to summit views over Cetti Bay's amphitheatre and the southern coast's curves; neighbouring Jumullong Manglo carries the ridge's cross-topped pilgrimage tradition, its Good Friday procession the island's moving institution.
