Trésor covers a slope of rainforest on the Kaw mountain, and its botanical trail is the easiest serious forest walk in the territory: a couple of kilometres of maintained path with numbered stations, giant kapoks and ferns, poison-dart frogs in the leaf litter and morpho butterflies drifting across the track. Because the trailhead is right on the Kaw road, it slots into the same day as the marshes below.

What you actually see

  • The botanical trail - a maintained loop with numbered stations through primary forest.
  • The giant kapoks - emergent trees rising over the path.
  • The dart frogs - small bright frogs in the leaf litter after rain.
  • The morphos - big blue butterflies crossing the track.

When to go

July to November is the dry season and the path is at its best. Early morning gives the most animal activity. After rain the frogs are out but the path is heavy.

Honest expectations

Wildlife is heard more than seen and nobody should expect mammals. The trail is short and half a day covers it. Mosquito repellent is essential.

Nearby

The Kaw marshes are downhill, and Roura is northwest.
