Dalur

Dalur sits at the end of the road on the southern tip of Sandoy, a village of a hundred or so people in a valley opening to the sea between steep green slopes. There is a church, a harbour cut into the rock and very little else, which is the character of the place. Walking routes climb from the village onto the ridges and along the coast, and the cliffs to the south hold seabird colonies.

• The road's end - the last village on the island, with nothing beyond.
• The rock-cut harbour - the small landing cut into the shoreline.
• The valley - green slopes rising steeply on both sides.
• The coastal walks - routes onto the ridges and along the cliffs.

When to go

May to September is the season. The road can be difficult in winter storms. Fog is common on the ridges.

Honest expectations

There are no visitor facilities and no shop. The coastal paths are unmarked and exposed. Getting to Sandoy at all takes planning.

Husavik is north, and Skuvoy is west across the sound.
