Dalur

Dalur sits at the end of the road on the south-eastern side of Sandoy, a village of a few dozen people in a valley opening to the sea between steep green slopes. There is a church, a harbour cut into the rock and very little else, which is the character of the place. Walking routes climb from the village onto the ridges and along the coast, and the cliffs to the south hold seabird colonies.

When to go

May to September is the season. The road can be difficult in winter storms. Fog is common on the ridges.

Practical notes

There are no visitor facilities and no shop. The coastal paths are unmarked and exposed. Getting to Sandoy at all takes planning.

Nearby

Husavik is north, and Skuvoy is west across the sound.
