Sagadi is one of the most complete manor ensembles in Estonia, a pink and white baroque main house of the 1750s with its full complement of outbuildings around a courtyard: stables, granary, servants' quarters, distillery, dairy and estate offices, set in a park with a pond and avenues. It belonged to the von Fock family until 1919. The main house is a museum of manor interiors, the outbuildings hold a forest museum covering Estonian woodland and forestry, a hotel and a restaurant, and the whole is run by the state forest agency. It sits inside Lahemaa national park, which contains several manors, of which Sagadi and Palmse are the two restored in full.

What you actually see

  • The main house - the baroque manor with its restored interiors.
  • The courtyard buildings - the full set of estate outbuildings.
  • The forest museum - the displays on Estonian woodland and forestry.
  • The park - the pond, avenues and grounds behind the house.

When to go

May to September when everything is open; winter hours are reduced and some parts close. Weekdays are quieter. It combines naturally with Palmse manor and the Lahemaa coast.

Honest expectations

Interiors are restored and furnished rather than original ensembles. Separate tickets apply to the manor, forest museum and other parts. Lahemaa's manors are similar to one another and two is usually enough. Winter opening is limited.

Nearby

Palmse manor lies west; Altja and the Lahemaa coast are north.
