Vosu sits on a bay in Lahemaa with a long sand beach backed by pine forest, and it has been a seaside resort since the nineteenth century, when Baltic German and then Estonian summer visitors built villas among the trees. It remains the busiest beach on this coast, filling in July with Estonian families and Tallinn weekenders, with a promenade, cafes, guesthouses and campsites behind the sand, and going quiet the rest of the year. The water is shallow and warms enough for swimming by Baltic standards. Walking and cycling routes run from here along the coast to Kasmu, Altja and the Lahemaa manors, and the pine forest behind carries trails.

When to go
June to August for the beach, with July the peak and busiest month. May and September are quiet and pleasant for walking. Winter empties the village almost entirely and most places close.
Honest expectations
Almost everything closes outside the summer season. July weekends are crowded and accommodation books out. Baltic water is cold even in August. There are no lifeguards.
