Stiniva Cove

Stiniva was a sea cave whose roof collapsed, leaving a circular bowl of white cliff with a shingle beach at the bottom and a narrow gap where the entrance used to be - narrow enough that only small boats pass through it. That geometry is the whole appeal: standing on the beach, the cliff closes almost completely overhead and the sea is visible through a slot. The land route is a steep rocky path down from the road above, about twenty minutes descending and longer coming back. Boat trips from Vis and Komiza call here in season and can fill the small beach quickly.

What you actually see

• A collapsed sea cave - the roof gone, the entrance left as a slot.
• A shingle beach in a rock bowl - cliffs closing overhead.
• A narrow gap to the sea - only small boats get through.
• A steep twenty minute path - the land approach.

When to go

June to September; early or late in the day to avoid the boats. Half a day.

Honest expectations

The path is steep, rocky and hard work coming back up in heat - not suitable for poor mobility or flip-flops. The beach is small and boat trips can crowd it completely at midday. There are no facilities and no shade after mid-morning.
