The Blue Lagoon is the stretch of water between the two Krknjas islets off the eastern side of Solta, shallow over a pale sandy and stony bottom, which is why it takes the bright turquoise colour that gets it onto every boat trip brochure from Split and Trogir. It is a mooring rather than a place - there is nothing on the islets but scrub and a seasonal bar on the water - and the appeal is swimming in clear shallow water off a boat. That popularity is also the problem: in July and August it can hold dozens of boats at once, and the quiet version of it exists only early or late in the day.

What you actually see

  • Turquoise over a pale bottom - the reason for the colour and the name.
  • Two small islets - scrub and nothing else on them.
  • A mooring, not a destination - reached and used by boat.
  • Dozens of boats in season - the reality in July and August.

When to go

June to September; early morning or evening for anything like quiet. Half a day.

Honest expectations

There is no land access and no facilities beyond a seasonal floating bar. Organised trips arrive in convoys at midday. Anchoring damage to the seabed is a live issue here. Bring your own water and shade.

Nearby

Solta is next door; Trogir and Split are on the mainland.
