Cetina Spring

The Cetina rises at the foot of Dinara in a near-circular pool of very clear blue water, and the spring is a vertical shaft: divers have descended well past a hundred metres without reaching the end of the system, which is why it draws technical divers and why the eye-like appearance from above has made it one of the most photographed spots in the Dalmatian hinterland. The river that starts here runs about a hundred kilometres to the sea at Omis. Beside the spring stands the small pre-Romanesque church of the Holy Salvation with a graveyard of medieval tombstones around it.

When to go

April to October. Two hours.

Practical notes

The blue only reads properly in direct sunlight; on a cloudy day it is grey. The pool is deep and cold and the edges are unfenced. The area is remote with almost no services. Drone use has been restricted at times.
