Vidova Gora

Vidova Gora reaches 778 metres on Brac, which makes it the highest point on any island in the Adriatic, and the reason people go up is the view directly below: Zlatni Rat, the shingle spit at Bol that shifts its tip with the current, seen from above in a way that no photograph from the beach can show, with Hvar beyond it and the open sea past that. The top is bare karst and scrub with a few stone shelters, a hut in season and a cross. A road runs up from Nerezisca; the path from Bol climbs about seven hundred metres and takes roughly two hours in full sun.

When to go

April to October; the walk is punishing at midday in summer. Half a day.

Honest expectations

The path from Bol is steep, stony and completely unshaded - carry water and start early. Haze often reduces the view in summer. The hut is seasonal. The road up is narrow with passing places.
